Avocado Lime Ranch Dressing is a breeze to whip up using just your blender and few other simple tools. We use heart healthy avocados to make our dressing ultra creamy without all the saturated fat of regular ranch, and flavorful herbs and spices for that punch of ranch you love. Pour it on salads and sandwiches, or use it as a delicious dip for your veggies!

While an obviously perfect pair for a basic tossed salad, you might also like to try it with Buffalo Tempeh Bites for dipping! Mmmm.

Heart Health Benefits of Avocado Lime Ranch Dressing

Opting for a homemade avocado lime ranch dressing is not just yummy, it also offers a variety of health benefits. Avocados, the star ingredient, are laden with essential nutrients that contribute to a well-rounded diet. They contain heart-healthy monounsaturated fats which are known to reduce levels of bad cholesterol in the blood and lower the risk of heart disease and stroke.

This recipe also falls into the low sodium and low fat categories, making it a heart-conscious option. Reducing sodium in your diet can help maintain normal blood pressure levels and lower the risk of cardiovascular conditions. By replacing traditional ranch dressing with this vegan alternative, you can enjoy the creamy texture without the excessive fats often found in dairy-based dressings.

Additionally, the inclusion of lime not only infuses this dressing with a fruity zest but also supplies a decent dose of Vitamin C, which is essential for immune function and skin health. The herbs used, like parsley and dill, bring more than just flavor—they have their own profile of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, which combined with garlic and onion powder, make this dressing a nutrient-dense choice for your meal.

Ingredients

You probably have most of the ingredients in your kitchen already. Here's what you'll need to create your avocado lime ranch dressing recipe:

Avocado lime ranch dressing ingredients.
  • Ripe avocado
  • Unsweetened nondairy milk
  • Lime juice
  • Onion powder
  • Garlic powder
  • Dried dill
  • Ground pepper
  • Fresh parsley
  • Salt

See recipe card for quantities.

Instructions

Just a few simple steps to create this delicious, low sodium salad dressing!

All dressing ingredients in a blender, ready for processing.

Slice the avocado in half, remove the pit, and scoop the flesh into your blender. Then add all the other ingredients, and blend until completely smooth.

Couldn't be easier than that, right?

Hint: Look for avocados that yield slightly to gentle pressure, have uniform softness without mushy spots, and possess dark green to nearly black skin depending on the variety.

Substitutions

Some substitutions you might need:

  • Milk - use buttermilk if you aren't dairy free, or try plain fat free yogurt
  • Fresh Parsley - try fresh cilantro, or 1 tablespoon dried parsley

With few ingredients, there are few substitutions you can make and still end up with a ranch dressing.

Variations

If you're looking for something a little different, try one of these variations:

  • Spicy - add a dash of chipotle powder or cayenne to kick it up a notch
  • Peppercorn - add crushed peppercorns to the dressing after blending it
  • Cucumber - add half or a quarter of a seedless cucumber into the blender. You may also need less milk.

This Cilantro Lime Sauce is delicious, too!

Equipment

I love my Vitamix high speed blender (affiliate link) for this, but I think you could get away with just about any blender for this recipe. None of the ingredients are overly hard, so it should blend up just fine with what you have. You can also easily double this recipe if your blender needs more volume in it.

Storage

Store the avocado lime ranch dressing in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 10 days. Shake well before using each time.

Pro tip

If you've never opened an avocado before, take a look at this quick video to show you how to do it!

FAQ

Can I use any non-dairy milk substitute for this recipe?

Yes, you can use any unsweetened non-dairy milk substitute to create this avocado lime ranch dressing. It's important to choose unsweetened varieties to ensure that the other flavors in the dressing are not overwhelmed, and the final product adheres to the intended savory profile.

How long can I store the avocado lime ranch dressing in the fridge?

The dressing should maintain its freshness in the refrigerator for 7-10 days. Make sure you store it in an airtight container to preserve its flavor and prevent oxidation. The presence of lime juice in the dressing may help slow down the browning process that's common with avocados.
